The Anti-Donald Trump protest that took place on March 14th 2016 outside the Grand Hyatt Hotel, at 42nd St and Lexington in New York City, where Trump was speaking, attracted a few thousand protesters. One Trump supporter instigated the crowd into a shoving match by shouting, "Isis is amongst us, learn how to use a gun safely.", while handing out flyers for the NYC Shooters Club.
Over the course of the protest nearly two dozen people were arrested. Witnesses saw at least one arrest that resulted in injury to the person in custody.
While photographing an arrest, I unexpectedly captured someone throwing a tomato at the police.
The protest started to move fast through the streets around 7:00 PM with smaller numbers the further it went. With seemingly no direction or leader, someone would shout "Left!" and everyone would cross in that direction. Police tried to keep people on the sidewalk, but couldn't, so they started to arrest people who strayed into the street and refused to go back to the sidewalk.
The protest ended with a peacefull gathering at Bryant Park around 10:30PM where everyone held hands and formed a large circle.
